A Brief History of the School

MILTON LYNCH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Brief History of the School

There is no authentic record of the early history of Milton Lynch Primary. Therefore the exact date of its opening has never been  ascertained. In its earliest days, the school was situated on lands rented from Kingsland Estate and was formerly known as Kingsland Mixed School. However, between 1896 and 1900 on the recommendation of the Bree Education Commission  (1894-1896) it became a boys' school. In September 1927, the building, which had become too small for the number of children attending, was moved to its present site and its capacity enlarged. It was then  renamed the Christ Church Boys' School.

In 1931, a further enlargement was effected. This was followed seven years later by the erection of a wall  structure at the North Western end of the main wooden block. Finally, in 1962 a wing consisting of six classrooms, an office and toilets  were built on the Eastern side of the main building.

On October 3rd 1979, the main building was entirely destroyed by fire. A new building was erected and opened in September of 1983. During the interim period, the students were housed in  prefabricated wooden units at Wotton.

The School was an all age school until September of 1992, when the few remaining senior boys were transferred to the St. Lawrence Composite School.  The  current school was officially renamed the Milton Lynch Primary by the Minister of Education, The Honourable Ronald Jones on the 29th of September 2008.

At present, the school boasts of being the only all male government primary school in the island, with a roll of 180 students.

Our ultimate goal is to create opportunities for our students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens. To achieve this, learning will be: purposeful, thought-provoking, challenging and developmentally appropriate, creative and hands-on.

Purpose

The purpose of the intended digital strategy is to address present and future curriculum design at the school. This will ensure the school stays abreast with any current and future research as we continue to prepare students to be effective, knowledgeable and skillful members of society, ready to conquer any future challenges in the changing world (O'Sullivan, 2015).
